Hello, and welcome to another edition of VFTS. Yeah, it’s STILL the dog days of summer, which means (as a bandhead) you’re kinda in suspended animation until August hits and you start hearing gems from bandrooms across the country. In the meantime, those of us that need to get a daily audio fix, go to the best thing in online resources; Youtube LOL.
Youtube has become the de facto archive for our craft, so it’s become pretty easy to catch up on the heat rocks and wig peeling that may have been missed during the course of a given season. That brings me to the meat of this edition of VFTS. Every season has straight up audio gems that the casual fan and bandhead alike absorb and end up playing over and over again, so I figured that I’d share some of MY bangers to keep the edge off until the start of the season. First up, The Human Jukebox:
I mean, c’mon mane…It’s the Jukebox. There isn’t gonna be a season that goes by where Southern University doesn’t have at LEAST 4 or 5 rewind-worthy pieces of music. The 2017-18 season was no different. Check out the Jukes’ rendition of Jamiroquai’s ‘Time Won’t Wait” and “Going The Distance“… Yeah, I know they’ve got two on the blog this edition, but both of them are worth being in the rotation…Check them out:
The last Qeen City BOTB was chock full of creasage and great match-ups. Here are some ffrom the archives:
The great thing about today’s technology is the ability to relive GREAT times that you may have been blessed enough to catch on camera. For today’s bandhead, there’s absolutely nothing better until the season actually starts and you can get NEW content. Hopefully you enjoyed my little piece of the off-season. Stay tuned for the next VFTS, where I’ll unveil the VFTS Pre-Drill top 10 HBCU Poll for Bandheads.
I’m not talking about that Jay White driven, Undefeated “I wouldn’t know HBCU bands if one blew a chord in my face” type of a poll that was done a while back, either (Shout Out to ‘The Undefeated’ for actually getting directors to correct that error…preciates it). I’m talking about a poll for Bandheads, by a Bandheads. Either way, it’ll be a great primer for the 2019-2020 season to come .
Until Next Entry…
