The H.B.C.U. marching band landscape has few constants. There are only a handful of programs that have developed a formula for success that has endured what typically faces OUR programs (i.e. administrative support, funding, constant staff turnover, etc.). Jackson State’s “Sonic Boom of the South” is one of those programs that could be considered a member of that elite group.
This year’s edition of the Sonic Boom has a VERY familiar face leading it. Specifically, he’s the brainchild behind signature performances like THIS one:
That director is Mr. Dowell Taylor. You could say that he’s a legend of sorts when it comes to on-field innovation and entertainment. The Sonic Boom’s signature on-field, show-stopping style can be attributed to Taylor’s work. Fast forward to the 2013 version of the Sonic Boom:
Looks like the vintage sound is back. If Mr. Taylor has done THIS much in one off-season, it’s truly ‘skies the limit’ for this current crop of Sonic Boom musicians.
SWAC opponents…You’ve been warned…
